Convincing Malaysian to go against BN is like convincing Malaysian to dislike durian fruit

Funny isn't it? Attempting to equate fruits to a political party is indeed a weird thing to do, but give me sometime and let me explain this briefly to you.

Now that the Sarawak election has ended a few days ago, and again Barisan Nasional(BN) won the whole election by majority of 2/3, you may think that this article is as useless as yesterday's newspaper reporting the events of the day before yesterday. Yet, there is no harm in keeping yesterday's newspaper for future references, is it?

Anyway, may I say this, "Convincing people to go against BN is like convincing people not to like durian fruit!" So, why this statement? Oh! By the way the statement only valid for the Malaysian or any other country in the world with people who loves durian fruit.

I'm just a 24 years old lady who knows so little thing about the politics, but I do know many things about durian fruit though, and I can certainly create a durian metaphor for politics.

As usual, when election season is coming, many political issues rise almost every minute, even until the election ended. Often the scenario we witness are the exciting and the aggressiveness of leaders of political parties manifesting their goodness and criticizing the opposition party. I guess that is a normal thing that I soon have to get use to as a young adult who just beginning to listen and register to vote.

Now that BN has won in Sarawak, people are beginning to rise questions and theories. One of them is, "I couldn't understand how people can support BN when all the educated ones are opposing it" It's a little harsh but the question really raised exactly that way. So let us all now do the simple equation by replacing BN with durian fruit. Now let's talk about durian fruit first.

As we know, durian is the King of Fruit obviously because of its thorny shape and hard structure which overcomes the external structure of many other fruits. If we put durian fruit and other fruit in a sack and let it fall from a hillside, it is more likely that the other fruit will damage heavily while the durian fruit maintain its shape and structure.

Even the smell of durian may attract or repel some people depending on their fruit appetite and acceptance towards durian fruit. Here in Malaysia, almost everyone likes durian and some even willing to buy it even though the price for 1 durian is insanely expensive. When durians are cracked open, the texture of its flesh is amazingly tempting with it's creamy and sweet taste together with the heavy and buttery odour... or impulsive pungent odour that some people claimed similar to the smell of a pile of rotten onions.

To the native people in Malaysia, resisting durian fruits is consider insane and odd because people here adore the taste and the smell of durians. Scientifically, durian fruit is a highly nutritious fruit with soft protein and is very beneficial to the muscle. More scientifically, durian fruits contains very high levels of Organosulfur Compounds and Tryptophan. These two chemical compounds mentioned are responsible as a cure for cholesterol, depression, anxiety, aggression and more health issues as mentioned here.

However, further research has been made by the geniuses informing that durians also contains a type of carbohydrates that makes the eater difficult to fall asleep. Although this information seem inconsistent with the fact that durian contains high levels of Tryptophan, which supposedly slows down the brain activity to enabled people to fast asleep, many people have confirmed the statement. Durian is also a "hot" fruit which makes it prohibited to be consume together with the consumption of alcohol or else you'll end up coma from the extreme heat in the body.

Ok, so that's about the scientific facts of durian that was taken from medical websites. So, let me rephrase the pros and cons of durians.

For the general pros, durians are sweet, delicious, creamy and also rich in carbohydrates and protein.

For the general cons, durian fruits are hot and thorny on the outside, which makes it very-very difficult to be handled and crack open.

As for general fact that is dependent to public opinion about durian fruits, is the smell of it. Nutritionist and scientist categorized durian fruit smell as pungent and sulfuric which may or may not be good and accepted by certain people. The acceptance of durian fruit smell will determine whether or not people are willing to eat it and if they did, the aroma will then tell the eater whether it's good and delicious or not.

Not clear with my metaphor yet? Let me make it clear. :)

Barisan Nasional is a political government party of Malaysia. It is by far the most stable political party that conquers almost every part of the country in Malaysia. It also has a very stable platform that makes it very hard for the opposition party to penetrate against it and bring it down. Some Malaysian adores BN and some don't. Leaders in BN promises many a good thing in their manifestos and some people say that BN actually did what they promised, while some says otherwise. BN is also a financially stable political party, probably due to it's government status, so no surprise if they are so easily believed by the Malaysian.

I've said quite many things to picture my durian metaphor to BN. I think you are smart enough to imagine the rest of the metaphor yourself, so I stop here.

So again, I re-state that convincing Malaysian to go against BN is like convincing Malaysian to dislike durian fruit.
